Difficult Pre-hospital Airway Management
نویسنده
چکیده
In management of patients with an emergency, airway management and ventilatory care are the highest priorities (1, 2). Everybody who is confronted with a patient in distress has to start with the ABC’s: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Establishment of an airway is the first step in the ABC’s. If the airway is blocked, death will occur within a few minutes. When an airway is only partially blocked, death will not occur immediately, but it can still be a lifethreatening situation, depending on the gravity of the blockage. For this reason, the airway should be opened totally and not only partially.

Pre-hospital advanced airway management by experienced anaesthesiologists: a prospective descriptive study
INTRODUCTION We report data from the first Utstein-style study of physician-provided pre-hospital advanced airway management. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anaesthesiologists from eight pre-hospital critical care teams in the Central Denmark Region (a mixed rural and urban region with 1.27 million inhabitants) prospectively registered data according to the template for reporting data from pre-hospita...
متن کاملA consensus-based template for uniform reporting of data from pre-hospital advanced airway management
BACKGROUND Advanced airway management is a critical intervention that can harm the patient if performed poorly. The available literature on this subject is rich, but it is difficult to interpret due to a huge variability and poor definitions. Several initiatives from large organisations concerned with airway management have recently propagated the need for guidelines and standards in pre-hospit...

متن کاملSuccess rates of pre-hospital difficult airway management: a quality control study evaluating an in-hospital training program
BACKGROUND Competence in emergency airway management is key in order to improve patient safety and outcome. The scope of compulsory training for emergency physicians or paramedics is quite limited, especially in Austria. The purpose of this study was to review the difficult airway management performance of an emergency medical service (EMS) in a region that has implemented a more thorough train...
متن کاملRefraining from pre-hospital advanced airway management: a prospective observational study of critical decision making in an anaesthesiologist-staffed pre-hospital critical care service
INTRODUCTION We report prospectively recorded observational data from consecutive cases in which the attending pre-hospital critical care anaesthesiologist considered performing pre-hospital advanced airway management but decided to withhold such interventions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anaesthesiologists from eight pre-hospital critical care teams in the Central Denmark Region (a mixed rural and...

Background Pre-hospital advanced airway management has been named one of the top-five research priorities in physician-provided pre-hospital critical care [1]. Few studies have been made on paediatric pre-hospital advanced airway management. The aim of this study was to investigate first-pass success rates and complications related to pre-hospital advanced airway management in patients younger ...
